Caravaggio

D.O.B. & Nationality: 1571 - 1610 / Italian

Caravaggio was exceptional. Born in Italy, this prominent painter lived from 1571 through 1610. His signature style set him apart. Among his masterpieces, two noteworthy ones are "Basket of Fruit" and "The Conversion of Saint Paul". Intriguingly, Caravaggio's input to the art world goes beyond his paintings. His inventive techniques had a profound impact on various European artists, shaping a significant part of the Baroque period. His use of light and shadow combinations, also known as chiaroscuro, fundamentally changed the manner in which artists visualized and articulated their subject matter. Moreover, he captured daily life with vivid realism and drama, demonstrating a truly rare talent.
